All New Mexicans deserve to care for themselves or their loved ones without sacrificing their financial security.

Whether recovering from a health crisis, welcoming a new baby, or caring for a seriously ill family member, workers shouldn’t lose income or their job. In New Mexico, 1 in 5 residents is a family caregiver, often facing the tough choice between working and providing care. Without Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML), these workers—essential to our communities—lack the support they need, risking their families and financial stability.

PFML guarantees paid time off during life’s most critical health moments, strengthening both families and the workforce. As a member of the New Mexico Paid Family and Medical Leave Coalition, we support policy changes that would build a stronger safety net to ensure workers can take time off without losing pay.
