Finance Manager

The New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty is hiring a Finance Manager to manage financial operations of the organization, perform all general accounting operations, administer payroll and benefits, and oversee all fund allocations, reporting, and financial controls and processes.


Responsibilities

  • Manages and performs all general accounting operations, including accounts receivables and payables, payroll, the general ledger, and balance sheet accounts.  Tracks corporate credit card purchases, and reviews and reconciles bank and investment statements.
  • Ensures accuracy of funding accounting system and allocates payroll and expenses including indirect costs to various programs and numerous grants and funding sources, maintains cumulative grant tracking sheets, prepares invoices for government contracts, and monitors the use of donor-restricted funds in accordance with grant agreements.
  • Advises senior management on creating the annual operating budget, strategic planning in financial areas, cash management, banking services, and procurement.
  • Creates and prepares accurate monthly financial statements and reports. Creates financial analysis of organizational spending, revenues, and trends.
  • Works with the operations manager on analyzing employee benefit options, implements benefits through payroll, monitors leave accumulation, manages flexible spending accounts, processes insurance and payroll related forms, and assists in the administration of benefits including interacting with vendors as needed.
  • Coordinates annual external audit, tax preparation, and state charitable registrations, ensuring compliance with GAAP, federal regulations, and grant requirements, and maintains electronic and paper files and records in accordance with best practice retention standards.
  • Reviews, develops, and enforces financial policies and procedures that ensure controls are in place to safeguard the organization’s assets and limit agency liability and risk of fraud.
  • Evaluates and implements accounting and financial process improvements, interprets accounting policy and regulations, and assists staff with using financial systems and processes

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to advancing economic, social, and racial justice in our communities
  • Minimum three to five years of accounting experience
  • Experience and in-depth understanding of non-profit or cost accounting bookkeeping and financial management.
  • Strong proficiency with QuickBooks and Excel, and savvy with using technology and computer programs.
  • Highly organized and accurate with careful attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with an ability to adapt to complexity.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Fosters a collaborative, positive, and mutually respectful team-based culture.
  • Clear communicator with the ability to create informational materials and translate financial concepts for colleagues without finance backgrounds.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and discretion to maintain confidentiality with sensitive or private employee information.
  • Maintains professional competence and training, and stays abreast of trends and innovations.
