Sierra is a proud New Mexican who was born and raised in Las Cruces before moving to Albuquerque to attend the University of New Mexico. Before joining the Center, she worked as Policy Analyst for the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office and as a Communications Manager for NMCAN–a local non-profit that partners with young people impacted by foster care, juvenile justice, and homelessness to build community, promote equity, and lead change. As an undergraduate student, she co-led Movimiento Estudantil Chicanx de Atzlan (MECHA) and became active in community organizing. She is a member of the inaugural Race Forward Mass Freedom Cohort, a national group of organizers around the country developing leadership for the long-term vision of abolition of systems of incarceration and criminalization. In her spare time, Sierra volunteers as an outdoor instructor for BIPOC community members, spends time with her family, and plays a lot of board games. She is passionate about NM’s families and communities thriving.
