Alisa Diehl is a Senior Education Attorney with NMCLP, where she is part of the legal team for the Yazzie plaintiffs in Yazzie/Martinez v. State of New Mexico. Working in partnership with New Mexico’s communities, her work centers around ensuring that families, students, and educators remain central in the fight for educational equity. Prior to joining NMCLP, Alisa worked for Iowa Legal Aid as a staff attorney, focusing on unemployment benefits, housing, and domestic abuse litigation, and later became a Program Developer. She coordinated the successful launch of multiple free legal clinics across the state of Iowa to expand access to justice. Alisa also won an Iowa Supreme court case establishing that individuals who lose their job due to incarceration as a result of criminal charges that are later dismissed, may still qualify for unemployment benefits. In her free time, Alisa enjoys taking care of her house plants, exploring New Mexico’s beautiful landscape with her family, and channeling her creativity into a range of art projects.
