Economic Equity Director

Maria Griego is the Economic Equity Director at NMCLP, where she leads impact litigation and policy advocacy to uphold and strengthen the laws protecting New Mexicans from illegal and predatory housing practices. Prior to joining the New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty, Maria practiced family law, handling complex divorce, custody, and child support matters. Her interest in social justice and systemic change began in law school through her work in the Community Lawyering Clinic. This ultimately led Maria to transition from family law to her current role, where she focuses on advancing housing stability and economic equity for New Mexicans. She is particularly proud of her role in leading impact cases that challenge unlawful practices in mobile home parks, as well as building strong coalitions with residents and community partners to strengthen housing rights across New Mexico.
