Abuko D. Estrada is the Healthcare Director at NMCLP, where he is a tireless leader and advocate for quality, affordable healthcare for all New Mexicans. He started his career with NMCLP, serving as an attorney focused on Medicaid and CHIP advocacy, including removing barriers to accessing the programs for New Mexico families and ensuring the programs received adequate state funding. Subsequently, he served as the Coverage Innovation Officer for the state of New Mexico, playing a key role in advocating for and helping develop the law establishing New Mexico’s Health Care Affordability Fund, which supports programs improving health coverage affordability. Abuko then left for Washington D.C. where he held health policy roles spanning across the federal government and the non-profit sector, before returning to New Mexico. In his free time, he enjoys landscape and astrophotography, spending time outdoors, and live music.
