Childcare Assistance

High quality early childhood education is critical to the development of children and the economic stability of New Mexico’s families. New Mexico’s Child Care Assistance program helps families pay for child care while they are working, going to school or searching for work. Many people qualify for Child Care Assistance but they are not enrolled in the program. Less than 25% of children from families that qualify are enrolled.

NMCLP works with partners to address barriers and advocate for expansion of child care assistance for New Mexico families through litigation and other advocacy. For example, NMCLP and partners successfully advocated for the state to stop requiring single parents to sue an absent parent for child support through the Child Support Enforcement Division in order to qualify for Child Care Assistance.
