Urban Indian Health Care Community Strategy Meeting

 

The Center is sponsoring this event, during which community members can gather to discuss problems they've experienced in accessing health care services in Albuquerque.  The meeting will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2006, at 7pm, at the Indian Nations Baptist Church/Highland Baptist Church (located at 417 Palomas Drive SE, two blocks east of San Mateo and twp blocks north of Zuni SE).  For an event flyer, please click here.

 

The 2006 Statewide Legal Services Training

 

The annual Statewide Legal Services training took place on June 13 and 14, 2006.  Over sixty attorneys attended, representing groups such as NM Legal Aid, Law Access NM, the Senior Citizen’s Law Office, Enlace Comunitario, DNA-People’s Legal Services, Catholic Charities and the State Bar of New Mexico.

The conference featured a Keynote Address from Dorian Dodson, Secretary of New Mexico Children, Youth & Families Department Children.  It also included professionalism training by Chief Justice Richard Bosson, ethics training by Michael Browde of UNM Law School, a "Look at the Significant New ABA Standards on Providing Civil Legal Aid" with Sarah Singleton, and three hours of public benefits training featuring John Bouman, Director of Advocacy at the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law.  Other topic areas covered included: consumer law, family law, bankruptcy law, predatory lending, depositions, discovery techniques, housing law, unemployment law, and more.  For the complete two-day training agenda, click here.
